Time: 1:00PM to 5:30PM
Location: Blue Sky Suite Hotel, No. 9 West Point Street Cubao, Quezon City
When I found out that there would be a free English workshop, I knew immediately that I had to join. Being a person who worked for a call center before, I could modestly say that I became more adept in the said language although I was, in a way, already fluent.
The workshop was headed by Maros Training and Consultancy Services or MTACS which is owned by partners Maria Rosanna Brigida Idelberga L. Ortiz (or Roxy Ortiz for short) and Marinel Bernadette G. Mejia. Both of them are highly skilled trainers who have a passion for teaching.

As for the workshop proper, there should have been 50 attendees, but no thanks to the bad weather, if my memory serves me right, I believe only 13 participants were able to make it. It would have been more fun though if more people could have came.
The workshop started with, of course, an introduction, but in a “call center” style. We were asked to introduce and associate ourselves to an ice cream flavor. Personally, I have a problem talking in public places as it makes me nervous (think Princess Diaries), but I gathered up all my courage and still spoke up. That activity itself aided me with my confidence issue.
During our break time, we were served food from Kangaroo Jack – Gateway Cubao and Sugar Rush Cakes and Pastries. Food was good but it could have been better if it was served hot. Not complaining though.
It was actually a fun workshop, as we all got to know each other better, while learning tips and tricks on how to improve our tongue to a more Americanized English. Like substituting “th” with “f” while talking to someone over the phone, or making sure to stress numbers to avoid constant repetition, or gathering thoughts before expressing them into words, or different emotions yield different expressions, or that stressing different words in a sentence might mean another thing. But the best part was having each and every one of us read the world’s hardest tongue twister according to Guiness Book of World Records, which is “The sixth sick sheik’s sixth sheep’s sick.” Can you read this for me?
After the workshop, we were each given a certificate of attendance courtesy of Mr. Billy Gualberto. Here’s mine!
