My Own Tip on How to Save Money

I’m not rich, but I want to be one (c’mon who doesn’t?). I don’t have an 8 hour office work, but rather I work from home. I’m glad I decided to become a work-at-home mom because not only do I have the luxury of time to spend with my daughter, but I also don’t have to think about the hustle and bustle of the everyday traffic just to make sure I won’t be late for work.

Anyways, being a mom, I’ve been saving for a lot of things, but my main priorities are my daughter’s future tuitions, and of course, having a house of my own that is near my parent’s place. I know there are a lot of options wherein I can get one easily through housing loans, but I’d rather save up first before I venture into this matter.

Some of my friends tell me to go for it, but maybe because I have this weird saving technique that renders me unable to go for the housing loan just yet.

So this is my own weird saving technique, which I personally think is effective:

piggy bank

I save double or triple the amount of whatever the cost of my goal is.

Example: I want a Sony Cybershot TX10 digital camera which costs roughly around Php15,000. So instead of just saving Php 15,000, I would save around Php 30,000 (double), or Php 45,000 (triple).

OA? Well I would agree that I am, and you’d probably ask why. My reason’s simple: I don’t want to go broke right after I buy something! I hate feeling guilty that I did get the item but afterwards, I don’t have anything left to spend, or worse, sell the item I just bought for a much lower price just to have money to spend. Personally, I hate selling my stuff especially if I worked hard for it.

So if a house cost at least a million, I guess I have to save 2 or 3 million! Woohoo! Good luck! :-P

How about you? Mind if you share some of your saving techniques?

I don’t think it’s a weird technique. It’s effective and it instills discipline. I also use this too. For smaller items like a cellphone or camera, I buy them if the price is at most 10% of what I have already saved. And to add more savings, I buy stuff on sale or when it’s buy 1 take 1, and I do not buy stuff for the sake of upgrading.

Ako naman, I don’t have any savings at this time, malakas ako sa pagbabayad ng rents and utilities don nauubos ang money ko, but when I get a more cheaper place which i am targetting this year, yan makakapag save na ulit ako.
