On Men Skincare: Shaving Tips
Men, however “ragged” they seem to be, just like women, need proper men skincare attention, most especially on their faces, specifically on shaving those unwanted facial hair off. Although most men would rather have their beard or moustache on, it’s simply more hygienic and more presentable to see a clean and well-trimmed facial hair.
I’ve asked around on how shaving men’s facial hair should be done and here are some tips I’ve gathered and would like to share with you all:
Wet hair = weaker hair = easier shave
• Shaving is best done after a taking a shower since hairs are softer, or if shower is not feasible, a quick rinse plus warm towel over the face for few minutes would suffice to cleanse skin and open up pores.
Use tried and tested shaving products
• Use shaving creams or gels with Aloe Vera which can protect the face against razor burns and redness. Use shaving creams that are less foamy, since the more contact the razor have on the skin, the closer the shave is while keeping the hairs as moist as possible.
Sharp blade
• Make sure to always use good quality razor blades, and keep them as sharp as possible. Ditch dull blades as these would only worsen a shave – another cause of razor burns and rash. Remember that the more strokes done during a shave, the more the skin is prone to irritation.
Shave with the grain
• Simply means to shave in the same direction as the hair growth. Shaving against the grain would easily cause redness and would cause ingrown hairs.
Soothe and moisturize
• After shaving, rinse face using lukewarm water, pat dry (don’t rub) and apply aftershave moisturizers, lotions or creams made specifically for men. These help protect the face from further irritation (if any), and would keep the face feeling fresh.
So there! These are just some basic shaving tips that I got from my guy friends, which I’m sure are useful to other guys out there as well.
